The Perfect Stranger

While we're looking at old lyrics here is another...

in the early 1980s Larry Gelbart [the creator of MASH] produced a very short lived T.V. show called "United States" with Beau Bridges and Helen Shaver.

One of the episodes planted the seeds for this song... and as my first marriage slowly came apart the lyrics too slowly evolved and came together

The Perfect Stranger

I am the perfect stranger,
Look in my eyes...Won't you take my hand?
I can be your dream of me...
I can be your perfect man.
But being perfect means being no one,
That no one really knows...
Still I am what you want to see,
So perfectly...the Perfect Stranger.

You are the perfect friend,
Take my hand...Won't you take my heart?
You are the perfect dream for me...
You play the perfect part.
But being perfect means being no one,
That no one really knows...
Still I am what you want to be,
So perfectly...the Perfect Stranger.

We are the perfect lovers,
Look in my heart..Won't you take my life?
We are the only dream we see...
You are a perfect wife.
But being perfect means being no one,
That no one really knows...
Still we are what we want to be,
So perfectly...Perfect Strangers.

Here is the perfect ending,
Look at your life...Don't you know my name?
It was all a dream to me...
It was the perfect game.
But being perfect means being no one,
That no one really knows...
Still I am what I want to be,
So perfectly...the Perfect Stranger.
